Rubens Barrichello kept his Championship hopes alive after claiming Pole Position for Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix in a qualifying session where heavy rain caused chaos over the three sessions.
Barrichello delighted the home crowd after setting a time of 1 minute 19.576 to just edge out the Red Bull of Mark Webber by +0.092 seconds. Force India’s Adrian Sutil will start in 3rd.
Barrichello’s team-mate and Championship Leader Jenson Button struggled in the wet conditions in his Brawn and will start a lowly 14th. The 3rd title contender Sebastian Vettel also failed to impress as his slim Championship hopes were hit. He will start in 15th.
Behind the top 3, Jarno Trulli starts in 4th with 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen starting in 5th. Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Buemi produced the shock of the day after he qualified in an impressive 6th.
McLaren had a dismal qualifying session as both cars failed to make it into Q2. Heikki Kovalainen starts in 16th with Reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton starting in 17th.
The Williams of Nico Rosberg starts in 7th with BMW Sauber’s Robert Kubica in 8th. The 2nd Williams of Kazuki Nakajima starts in 9th with Double World Champion Fernando Alonso completing the top 10 in his Renault.
