Finn Kimi Raikkonen has revealed that if he is to continue driving Formula 1 cars next season, it will only be for McLaren after he agreed to leave Ferrari a year early as Fernando Alonso takes his place alongside Felipe Massa.
Jenson Button and Nico Rosberg are two other drivers rumoured with the drive at McLaren.
Despite it being well known that Toyota wanted the 2007 world champion, Raikkonen told Finland’s MTV3:
Toyota has not even been discussed. If I want to drive [F1] cars, then McLaren in the only option. I should know the situation in the next few days.”
The Finn who is earning $45m this year – the most of the F1 field at Ferrari, competed in the Finnish round of the World Rally Championship this year and has not ruled out making the jump to rallying full time, or to take a sabbatical year. He said:
“Basically I have a few different options and we will see what is the best one overall and then make my decision
“I can [take a year out] if I want. I can do whatever I want, but like I said before, I haven’t made my decision what I want to do yet.”
