Todt replaces Mosley as the president of the FIA as he beats Ari Vatanen comprehensively in a vote.

Jean Todt

63 year old Frenchman Jean Todt who received the endorsement of the outgoing Max Mosley has today been elected to replace him as president of the FIA as he beat former world rally champion, Finn Ari Vatanen comprehensively, by 135 votes to 49.

The FIA should be in good hands with Todt at the helm as not only has he had competitive experience behind the wheel having won various world rally races, but he has also shown he has got good success behind the scenes in a management role as he was Team Principal for the Ferrari F1 team from 1993-2007. During his time at Ferrari, he was credited with turning a team which was in the mire, to a team which was nigh-on unbeatable when Todt hired Michael Schumacher to drive at the team and brought in excellent technical staff, such as Ross Brawn.

Todt replaces the outgoing Max Mosley, who is responsible for much of the safety features in F1 we see today as well as bringing much publicity and attention to the sport during his reign which began in 1993, but this will be overshadowed by his involvement in a Nazi Sado-masochistic sex act involving several female prostitutes last year.
