It has all gone on at the McLaren factory in Woking today; first we hear that Kimi Raikkonen‘s management team have been spotted at the team’s HQ and now that Jenson Button has been given a guided tour around the state-of-the-art facility.
According to The Guardian newspaper, the tour was given to Button and his manager Richard Goddard by McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh.
So does this mean that Button’s new home will be in Woking and with McLaren? Well according to the newspaper, a contract could be signed as early as next week if terms can be finalised, also mentioning that this would create the first team with two world champions competing alongside each other since Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were team-mates at McLaren way back in 1989.
On the visit by Jenson Button to the teams HQ, a McLaren spokesperson said:
“Having just arrived at Heathrow, Jenson made a small detour to Woking to say hello.”
Hmm. I somehow think that Button didn’t visit the factory just to say ‘hello’.
It may have been a ‘small detour’ in terms of distance, but it will certainly go a long way to deciding the future of the new world champion.
