According to an ‘internal source’ at the Renault F1 Team, Heikki Kovalainen was spotted at the team’s base at Enstone on Friday, provoking rumours of the Finn’s return to the french team he raced for in 2007.
Kovalainen’s father has said that the announcement as to where his son will be next season will be made next week, which coincides with when Renault are expected to name their second driver to team up with Robert Kubica.
28-year-old Kovalainen has been in F1 since 2007 where he raced for Renault before moving to McLaren for 2008 and 2009, before being replaced by Jenson Button for 2010. Kovalainen has raced in F1 52 times, collecting 105 points but only one race win.

Glad Heikki appears to have a drive. Too good no to be in it, and did well at Renault first time around. Think Kubica may have the beating of him, though.
I heard Heikki to Lotus rumours too. Either way I’m very glad for Kovy. I think Mclaren was a step up too soon and then he had his head destroyed by Lewis always beating him (he also made comlaints that he didn’t get to choose his strategy but this could be just he didn’t assert himself or a problem with the team it is hard to tell).
He showed some good moments (Suzuka 09 on Fisi) but the race pace just wasn’t there. I feel he has potential but he has to deliver it. If not then this could well be his last team in f1.
