Well there’s definitely one Schumacher on the grid, but according to a German newspaper there could have been two.
De Bild claims Ralf Schumacher had been offered a drive with one of Formula One’s new teams – USf1, Campos Meta, Lotus or Virgin Racing – but that he was happy racing in the German DTM touring car series.
After older brother Michael announced his return with Mercedes last week, Ralf said:
“Honestly, I also would not have hesitated for a second. With Mercedes in the DTM I feel very good, but I am sure I would get right back up to speed in a formula one car.”
And De Bild quotes an unnamed friend as saying:
“Ralf had a concrete offer (to return to F1 in 2010) but it wasn’t the challenge he wanted.”
Ralf Schumacher spent 11 season in F1, with 6 wins from 180 starts and was on the podium 27 times. He had 6 pole positions and 8 fastest laps. Ralf has driven for Jordan, Williams and Toyota and left the sport at the end of the 2007 season after failing to secure a race seat.
