Fernando Alonso today has boldly and very optimistically come out and said that Ferrari will win the drivers championship, despite sitting 47 points behind championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
“I think we will win. Yes,” said the 29-year old. “I think we lacked points in Valencia and Silverstone, but these are some moments of the championship where we needed to show that we want the championship. I am more convinced than before this race that we will win the championship.”
Alonso was victim of a harsh steward decision in the British Grand Prix, after he cut a corner to pass Robert Kubica. Kubica shortly after retired, meaning instead of being able to just give the place back, he had to come into the pits for a drive through penalty, losing the two-time world champion 14 places.
Instead of his rotten attitude after rival Lewis Hamilton didn’t lose any places in a penalty at Valencia, Alonso was more relaxed in his response today, chuckling: “It is not my job. I drive the car. What the stewards say is always right, so that is it.”
Ferrari have had a dreadful season so far, and you have to go back to the days of Gilles Villeneuve and Carlos Reutemann to find a worse result for Ferrari than their 14th and 15th at yesterday’s British Grand Prix.

A tad too optimistic maybe…..
really optimistic. But the steward were right, he knew he did something wrong and had to give back the position right away and not play as a fool. sorry for ferrari.
I your dreams Alonso, get ready for 2011, I don’t see you are doing in 2010.
what pills has been taking Lol
Yet another example of rubbish coming out of his gob
Every driver always says this. Hamilton was harping on last year saying he wouldn’t give up and Alonso has a much better chance. They always say this and they have to. It would be hugely disappointing if he gave up now. It’s still entirely possible even if it doesn’t look good right now.
