Fernando Alonso set the fastest time in the new Ferrari F2012 on the final day of the opening pre-season test at Jerez. The Spaniard set the fourth best time of the week.

Second was Jean-Eric Vergne, covering 80 laps to Alonso’s relatively few 39 – although it was enough to work through different set-up configurations in the Ferrari and set the quickest lap in the process.

Sebastian Vettel was third, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Romain Grosjean. Sixth was Kamui Kobayashi, despite losing a couple of hours worth of running in the afternoon with a hydraulic leak.

Nico Hulkenberg got his first action in the Force India VJM05 today, and drove the car to seventh. It was also Jarno Trulli’s first turn behind the wheel of his new Caterham, and he finished last, behind Williams’ Bruno Senna.
