Michael Schumacher set the fastest time on day two in Jerez, albeit in last year’s Mercedes. Red Bull’s Mark Webber was second, but the fastest in a 2012 car.

Daniel Ricciardo was third, with Force India reserve driver Jules Bianchi impressing in the new car in fourth. He received the car in the afternoon from teammate Paul di Resta, whose best time saw him into sixth place behind yesterday’s pacesetter Kimi Raikkonen.

Felipe Massa and Jenson Button were seventh and eighth, both of whom will hand their cars over to their teammates – Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton respectively – tomorrow. Sergio Perez was ninth after losing some track time with a fuel system problem, with Pastor Maldonado tenth.

Heikki Kovalainen completed an incredible 139 laps, and wound up half a second ahead of Pedro de la Rosa, who completed the times in the 2011-spec HRT.
