You can now predict the Spanish Grand Prix in our 2012 Predictions Championship. The predictions form below will be open until qualifying begins on Saturday. We’re hoping to be able to award prizes to the top three finishers at the end of the season, but this is yet to be confirmed. Three, two, one…go!

How the points are scored

You predict pole position, and positions 1-5 in the race. You can make your predictions on the Thursday before the Grand Prix, until the start of Qualifying on Saturday (so the smartest ones will be waiting until after third practice before predicting!). You will make your predictions in a blog post (like this one) which will be posted once the predictions for each Grand Prix are open. Following the Grand Prix, there will be another blog post showing the predictions league standings.

You can make your predictions at any race throughout the season, but to maximise your chance of winning our great prizes, try to predict as many races as you can! Make sure you use your real email when making your prediction so we can let you know if you have won, and be certain to enter the same email and name for every Grand Prix prediction you make, so as not to confuse our system.

And so, after a suspected hacker attack and a boycott of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the site cranks back into life! Below is complete aggregated times from the full three days of mid-season testing at the Italian circuit, Mugello.

penicheiro predicted the outcome of the Chinese Grand Prix better than anyone else in the championship, moving to the top of the table, with Enigma 2nd and Camilo Perdomo and mario_eb joint 3rd:

Nico Rosberg took his first ever pole position ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. Read on for a session-by-session report of Saturday’s qualifying session.

Q1

Jean-Eric Vergne was the disappointment of Q1, with the Toro Rosso driver failing to make it through into the second round. He was eliminated with the usual suspects, with Caterham duo Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov ahead of Marussia’s Timo Glock and Charles Pic, with HRT’s Pedro de la Rosa, and Narain Karthikeyan bringing up the rear.

Interestingly many teams, including Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Sauber and Lotus felt it necessary to go on to the option tyre in Q1, with the fastest runner not to use the soft compound being Mark Webber, who finished in 8th place. It’s estimated that the option tyre is 0.6s per lap quicker than the prime.

Q2

There was further drama in Q2, as Sebastian Vettel was eliminated before the pole position shoot-out for the first time since Brazil 2009. In an extraordinary turn of events, a late charge from Romain Grosjean saw him knock the German down to 11th, despite teammate Mark Webber being fastest.

It was more gloom for Felipe Massa who’ll start behind Vettel in 12th place. Williams’ Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna will start 13th and 14th, ahead of Force India’s Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg. Daniel Ricciardo was last in Q2.

Q3

An astonishing early lap from Nico Rosberg secured pole position for Mercedes by over half a second. It was the German’s first ever pole, and he’ll start alongside teammate Michael Schumacher with Lewis Hamilton being put back five places due to a gearbox change penalty.

Kamui Kobayashi qualified 4th (but will start 3rd), as Sauber’s impressive form continued. He’ll start ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Jenson Button and Mark Webber. Sergio Perez will start 9th, with Romain Grosjean 10th.
